WASHINGTON, Jun 14 (PRIME) -- U.S. Wyoming Senator John Barrasso has submitted a bill aimed at stopping implementation of Russia’s Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline project for consideration of Congress, the official said on his website late on Thursday.
“The Energy Security Cooperation with Allied Partners in Europe Act, or the ESCAPE Act, enhances the energy security of NATO members by providing those countries with reliable and dependable American energy. It also mandates sanctions on the Nord Stream-2 pipeline that would carry natural gas from Russia to Germany, along with other Russian energy export pipelines,” the statement read.
The Nord Stream-2 project envisages construction of two lines of a natural gas pipeline with an annual capacity of up to 55 billion cubic meters, running from the Russian shore to Germany under the Baltic Sea. Russian gas giant Gazprom is implementing the project together with Germany’s E.ON and BASF, Royal Dutch Shell, Austria’s OMV, and France’s Engie.
